Chartiers Valley is one of the 12 best suburban school districts in the region, according to a recent Pittsburgh Magazine analysis of 45 public schools.
To put it another way, Chartiers Valley tied for sixth place with seven other school districts. This ranking puts Chartiers Valley ahead of Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, and South Fayette.
Pittsburgh Magazine scored the schools using a formula that incorporates the following data:
- SAT scores
- Number of Advanced Placement courses offered
- Whether the district offers all-day kindergarten
- School district tax rate
It appears that the magazine’s methodology assigns each data point a score from 1 to 4 based on where it ranks relative to other districts on the list.
Chartiers Valley’s average SAT score—1,075— ranked in the bottom half of schools on the list, so that only earned a score of 2.
But CV’s high number of AP classes, its all-day kindergarten, and its ultra-low tax rate earned 4 points each, boosting the district’s overall scoring average.
