The Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department recently invested in a water additive that helps firefighters use less water while actually making it easier to extinguish many types of blazes.
The product, F-500 Encapsulator Agent, absorbs up to 10 times more heat than plain water, according to its manufacturer, and renders a fire’s fuels non-flammable and non-ignitable.
While training with F-500 last month, Bridgeville’s firefighters were impressed.
“I hate to say this, but the guys are actually looking forward to using it,” said fire chief Bill Chilleo.
Here’s a fire department in Virginia training with the product in a car fire scenario.
