UPMC Ditches Plan To Build Hospital in South Fayette

The $200 million, 90-bed hospital that UPMC was looking to build in South Fayette will instead be located somewhere in the South Hills, according to the Signal-Item:

A spokeswoman for South Fayette Township said the municipality was surprised to learn UPMC scrapped plans for a hospital in the community.

There was a sense of “surprise and disappointment that UPMC would abruptly change their plan,” township spokeswoman Andrea Iglar said Friday morning.

Although the hospital would have been a major tenant for South Fayette’s Newbury Development, the nonprofit UPMC wouldn’t be subject to the township’s real estate taxes.

Some Bridgeville residents were concerned about the traffic impact that the hospital would have on an already-strained road system.
