The Bridgeville Area Historical Society hosted a lecture on Sunday examining one of World War II’s most fascinating, and flawed, characters—Admiral William Halsey.
Guest speaker Dr. Jack Aupperle, a retired Methodist preacher, made the case that “a hero does not necessarily have to be perfect.” Halsey was a great Naval leader, but also a controversial figure whose judgement and risk-taking nature drew scrutiny more than once during the war.

The Historical Society hosts events such as these throughout the year. Admission is free.
At the next program, author Todd Wilson explores the history of Pittsburgh’s bridges. That’s scheduled for Sunday Feb. 26 at 1:30 PM in the Chartiers Room at the Bridgeville fire department.
