Free Parking In Bridgeville For the Rest of the Year

Here’s a holiday gift for area motorists: free parking in Bridgeville!

The borough parking authority is allowing free parking at its metered spots now through New Year’s Day. Those locations are:

Parking Lots:
#1 Washington & PNC Bank — 37 spaces
#2 Washington & Bank St Ext — 112 spaces
#4 Railroad St — 35 spaces
#5 Station St — 61 spaces

Metered Street Parking:
Shady Ave – 17 meters
Station St – 20 meters
Hickman St – 8 meters
Railroad St – 5 meters

Each year around this time, the parking authority allows free parking at its lots. This year, the move will hopefully encourage people to visit the community and support local businesses during what could be a dismal holiday season for brick-and-mortar establishments.

There has long been a debate about whether Bridgeville should offer free parking year-round in some form as a way to compete with the no-cost, low-hassle parking offered in larger, more-sprawling business developments in South Fayette and Collier.

The parking authority has rejected those suggestions in the past, arguing that meters and parking permits provide the revenue necessary to maintain and upgrade Bridgeville’s collection of publicly owned lots.
