Bridgeville Basketball Kids Get Another Upgrade, Thanks to Police Organization

Three weeks ago, Bridgeville police officer Roger Itzel spotted a group of local kids attempting to play basketball using a recycling bin for a hoop.

A short time later, Itzel returned with a hand-me-down basketball hoop in tow. The story spread nationwide, and the Bridgeville Facebook video racked hundreds of thousands of views.

The story didn’t end there, however.

Police officer Bobby White, of Gainesville, Florida, heard about the Bridgeville kids and decided to donate a new, NBA-licensed, basketball hoop. White operates the Basketball Cop Foundation, a non-profit that promotes police/community relations building through basketball.

The new hoop arrived this week, and was quickly put into action for a cops versus kids game.

Police also received donations from locals residents, including a second hoop, which will go to a local church, said Bridgeville Police Chief Chad King.
