From Trash Traps to Retention Ponds: BV Officials Pursuing Flood Remedies

August 7, 2018 By Tim McNellie

Mike Tolmer, president of Bridgeville Borough Council, speaks at the July 2018 planning commission meeting.

The proposed $30 million reshaping of Baldwin Street and Bower Hill Road would almost certainly reduce flooding in Bridgeville. But it would also be hugely expensive and involve property acquisitions, rerouting a creek, rebuilding roads, and moving tons of earth. To qualify for FEMA assistance, the total statewide, uninsured damage from any given Pennsylvania disaster has to exceed $18.1 million. As of Monday, it looked like… [Read More]

UPDATED: How Eliminating Baldwin Street Could Save Bridgeville From Future Floods

August 1, 2018 By Tim McNellie

An artists's rendering of what the Baldwin Street corridor could look like after a $30 million makeover to reduce the area's flood risk.

At the outset, Monday night’s much-anticipated Bridgeville Planning Commission meeting seemed like a letdown. The borough’s environmental consultant, Carolyn Yagle, would not be on-hand to discuss a how radically altering the Baldwin Street/Bower Hill Road corridor could reduce the area’s flood risk. Bridgeville has paid Yagle’s firm, Environmental Planning & Design, more than $20,000 to… [Read More]
