Above is the full video of the Feb. 27, 2018 Chartiers Valley School Board meeting. Below are notes from the meeting via the school website.
Mr. Seltzer discussed the challenge facing the board on reinstituting the Elementary Spanish program, saying that “if we do reinstitute the program properly, we will have to devote more time to it than we had in the past. The big issue then, is from where do we ge the additional time?”
Mr. Mazzarini stated that going forward he wished to work more closely with the Chartiers Valley Education Foundation and encouraged audience members to attend the foundation’s largest fundraiser, CVEF Trivia Night on March 24, and thanked CVEF for the funds they provide our students and teachers through Give Grants and scholarships.
Mr. Kuczinski stated that the Finance Committee is questioning whether or not the district is getting the level of service expected from its current insurance broker. The board plans to issue an RFP to solicit proposals from interested insurance providers.
Mr. Kuczinski also discussed the possibility of a ballot referendum for a tax increase to be used specifically for campus safety. Portions of the money gained from a tax increase would go to upgraded surveillance and safety equipment, but the majority of the increase would go toward increasing personnel.
