Recognition
Senior Will Phifer was recognized to the board for achieving Commended status in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship program. Will was among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who took the PSAT in 2016.
Superintendent’s Report
Athletic Director Angie Potthoff presented the board with an overview of Varsity News Network, an athletics-oriented website that will promote Chartiers Valley varsity sports programs through a mobile-friendly web pressence. VNN has agreements with 21 western Pennsylvania high schools and thousands nationwide. VNN will use coaches’ recaps of games as well as media reports to increase the visibility of CV athletic programs. The site will include schedules, rosters and photo galleries. The site would be driven by ad revenues from a core of 10-15 district approved sponsors. A percentage of ad revenues would be shared with the district.
Curriculum Directors Dr. Jillian Bichsel and Ms. Julie Hopp presented the board with a breakdown of 2017 PSSA data and provided their preliminary findings on both increases and decreases in CVSD results. View the Assessment Data presentation.
Human Resources
Former CVSD Transportation Director Mr. Mike Mazzeo has been hired as a Transportation Consultant pending the solicitor’s review of proposed contract.
Consent Agenda
The board approved a motion to continue an Education Services Agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for an Alternative Education prorgam for the 2017-2018 school year.
Approved a motion to approve high school Student Council’s trip to attend the PASC state conference in York, PA on Nov. 2-4. Student Council will pay the costs of the trip.
Approved Student Council request to hold Prom on Friday, June 1, 2018.
