“Big Ed” Ruffennach was an accomplished trumpeter, a World War II infantryman, a volunteer firefighter, a professional fire safety expert, a father, a grandfather, and a great grandfather. He was also a beloved member of the Bridgeville community.
Ruffennach died earlier this week at age 96.
As a tribute, Bridgeville Mayor Pat DeBlasio has proclaimed Saturday, Oct. 7 as a day to reflect on Edward Charles Ruffennach’s life and to emulate the kind of dedication and service that he showed his family, friends, neighbors, and community.
During his 59 years a Bridgeville firefighter, for example, Ruffennach answered “more calls than can be counted with a friendly smile and self-effacing grace, placing the welfare of others above himself,” DeBlasio said in his proclamation, which can you read below [PDF]:
