Bridgeville’s parks could become no-smoking areas this summer.
Borough council voted 6-0 earlier this month to advertise an ordinance prohibiting smoking in Bridgeville’s four parks.
“I think it’s a good idea,” said Joseph Colosimo, who heads the borough’s parks and recreation committee. “Kids are down there playing ball and they shouldn’t have to smell smoke.”
If the measure becomes law, Allegheny County will provide “No Smoking” signs to display at the parks at no cost to the borough.
Colosimo noted that when he was involved with youth baseball 30 years ago, it wasn’t unusual for a team’s manager to sit on the bench smoking alongside his players.
“But times have changed,” he said.
