Navigation System Respects No Law, Gets Truck Driver Pulled Over On Ridge Road

October 17, 2016 By Tim McNellie

Overweight construction vehicles have been illegally using Ridge Road in Bridgeville ever since work began on the new Bednar Estates development in Upper St. Clair.

It’s been an ongoing headache for the borough. Bridgeville police have stepped up enforcement in the area, but what do you do when a driver’s GPS system may be guilty of, at the very least, aiding and abetting the illegal driving?

That’s a situation that police keep encountering, as Chief Chad King explained while discussing a recent traffic stop involving a triaxle truck.

“The issue we run into is that he actually had his GPS on and that’s the way it was telling him to go,” the chief said. “It kept repeating itself over and over.”

Unfortunately, GPS doesn’t recognize all of Bridgeville’s laws and ordinances.

“I’m confident he won’t be going that way anymore,” King said.
