For a 1.1-square-mile town of just 5,100 people, Bridgeville has a lot going on this fall — a food festival, historical lectures, a country concert, and more.
Take this weekend, for instance:
Friday
Knights of Columbus 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
Where: Holy Child parking lot
When: 7 p.m. sharp
Cost: $0
Why You Should Go: The Sept. 11 attacks took place 14 years ago. Most kids today have no memory of those events. Bring your family to this short ceremony, hug them, then go out and have dinner together.
Saturday
Live Comedy Show/Fire Department Fundraiser
Where: Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial Street
When: Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Cost: $20/person
Why You Should Go: Dinner, drinks, and admission at a Pittsburgh comedy club is going to cost at least $50 per person. Here, you get all that for $20, there are no parking hassles, and your money supports Bridgeville’s fire department at a time when many all-volunteer forces are struggling with budgets and manpower. To purchase tickets, call Jim Altvater at 412-508-3861 or Ray Costain at 412-266-1043.
Sunday
American Legion Pig Roast and Block Party
Where: American Legion Post 54, 325 Station Street
When: Noon – 7 p.m.
Cost: $10/person
Why You Should Go: The Steelers aren’t playing. What, are you going to sit at home and watch the Browns play the Jets?
Get outside and enjoy food, live music, and cornhole games in the middle of Station Street. Plus the Miller Lite girls will be there. Plus, there’s a 50/50 drawing. Plus there are raffles for Steelers tickets, among other prizes. Plus you won’t have to hear Browns fan inevitably chant “We Want Johnny.”
