Update: We jumped the gun — on last year’s newsletter. The junk car item was from the autumn 2014 borough newsletter. But still, don’t leave your broken down car in the street.
Here’s how serious Bridgeville is about getting rid of junk cars around town — junk cars are the the lead item in the borough’s autumn newsletter.
Under the headline “Important Information” is the following:
Abandoned/junk vehicles: Cars not in running condition and/or without a valid registration or inspection are not permitted on private/residential property for more than 30 days as per Borough Ordinance #649. If the vehicle is on public property or a highway the violation falls under the state vehicle code section 3712.
The penalty for violation, per borough code, is a fine of up to $1,000 or, if you can’t or won’t pay the fine, up to 30 days in jail. Each day of violation can be considered a separate offense.
You can read the entire borough ordinance regarding junk vehicles here.
The state vehicle code referenced in the newsletter item is also online.
