With only a half-dozen living remaining members, the Bridgeville brand of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) is about to disband.
The group’s next meeting will be its last, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
As a final act of goodwill, the group donated to the Bridgeville Public Library the money that would have gone to pay national SOAR dues.
“We always met at the library on the last Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m.,” [chapter president] Virgil Colucci said. “It was either donate the money or have a party.” …
To Colucci, the donation was a way to do one last thing to make a statement about the organization’s principles.
“We’re ordinary people, nothing special,” Colucci said. “That’s the end of the ballgame.”
